The Performance Racing Industry convention is one of the largest in the world and the team had a great time checking out the vendors as well as seeing new innovations in the racing world. Danika was excited to meet drivers she had only seen on television and Gabe got a special kick out of walking out onto the Lucas Oil Stadium field to check out the car haulers and motorhomes.
Danika was awarded along with the other Top 10 drivers in each division at the PDRA Awards banquet held Saturday night. There was lots of good food and dancing and everyone had a great time. The team is very grateful to their sponsors for making this season so awesome and productive. After traveling to St. Louis to represent ES Foods at the SNA Conference, the crew headed to Ohio and Dragway 42 for the 5th PDRA race of the season. Danika had a great weekend qualifying for the quarter finals. August brought the joy of celebrating Danika's 12th birthday as well as the sadness of losing Ricky Miles, Danika's grandfather and Gabe's father. He was a great man and we miss him so much. GALOT Motorsports Park in Benson, NC was the location of the next race in early Sept but the weather had another plan and the event was rained out. Next race, the team finally got to race closer to home at the Darlington Dragway Oct. 4-5th. Danika had her best race yet, qualifying for the semi-finals and finishing in the Top 4. Danika also got to wear a new helmet sponsored by Sarah & Geo's Pizza of Ridgeway, SC which was painted by Gabe. Gabe surprised Danika by paying homage to her grandfather with the words "My Pop rides with me" painted on the back. The team wrapped up their season at the PDRA World Finals in Petersburg, VA at the Virginia Motorsports Park. All their hard work earned Danika the 8th position in her Top Jr. Dragster division of the PDRA. She will be honored along with the other Top 10 in her division at a banquet held in conjunction with the PRI trade show in Indianapolis, IN the weekend of Dec. 13-15th. We are very excited for her and proud of her! We would like to thank our national sponsors, ES Foods and A La Mode Ice Cream, as well as our local sponsors, Bella & Blue Boutique, Blown Away Salon of Blythewood, Silverback Krew, Red Shirt Guys Roofing, Brown's Tire Oil & Lube, Spud, Inc., KD Promotions, Sarah & Geo's Pizza, Isagenix, State Farm and The Art of Dentistry. The team has been all over the Southeast the past few weeks and the rest of the summer is also packed full of events. Spring started with the 4 Wide at zMax Dragway where Danika was thrilled to get to meet and watch Brittany Force race. They also have a Jr. Dragster exhibition so it is fun to meet and chat with other teams outside of competition days. The first weekend of May the team headed to Virginia Motorsports Park to race in the 2nd race of the PDRA schedule. The weather wasn't very cooperative but they were able to race and also snag an spot in the elimination round. Next up was the bracket series race at Darlington Dragway where Danika earned more points on her quest to be track champion. May ended with a block party at Sarah N' Geo's in Ridgeway, SC. There was lots of pizza thanks to Sarah and George and delicious A La Mode ice cream. The crew headed to GALOT Motorsports Park April5-7th for the 1st PDRA race of the season. The weekend started off rainy causing the Jr. Dragster's to lose two of their qualifying rounds so now there were only two opportunities for them to qualify for the Top 16 elimination rounds. Danika's reaction times of .013 and .016 more than qualified her for the elimination rounds where she was knocked out by a very accomplished racer. We were happy with the weekend as Gabe learned a lot about how this new car will run in inclement weather and our partner, Adam Weidel came out to support. Adam owns Silverback Krew clothing and has made a shirt that will be available only through Miles Custom Racing and we are very grateful for his support!
The second points race at Darlington Dragway was one we won't forget! We got there early Friday to shoot footage for our sponsors and the kids had a blast in front of the camera. You can catch a sneak peak of the footage below. Hamming it up for the camera didn't rattle their focus, though, because when it was time to race, they were ready to roll and it showed. Hezekiah's reaction times are getting better every time he makes a pass and those improvements led him to the 2nd round of eliminations. Danika had a fantastic day, finishing in the Top 3 out of 37 kids. She's cutting quick lights and enjoying being one of the few left standing! Next race is April 5-6th and is the 1st PDRA race of the season in Benson, North Carolina at GALOT Motorsports.
First points race of the season was a success! Kiah made his driving debut and won his first round against a seasoned driver, eventually making it to the 3rd round. Danika made her first pass in the new ESFoods car and she made it to the third round as well with both kids red lighting in the 3rd round. If you aren’t going red sometimes, you’re not racing! Excited for the season ahead!
